The African art of the Ivory Coast offers a very large diversity of masks. The African masks of the Baoule, Baule, and those of the Yahoure, Yaure, naturalists, are surmounted by varied scenes accompanied by zoomorphic elements evoking the qualities of the animals represented. The attention to detail is what makes the artists of Côte d'Ivoire so famous.
The masks known as portrait masks, ndoma, evoke people renowned for their qualities, physical or moral. Gemelity is furthermore considered a blessing and twins " nda " are celebrated during masked festivals. Completed with a raffia costume, the dancers would stage the masks during various celebrations . Nowadays it is to welcome distinguished visitors that the Baule, Baule, make use of such masks and the Yahoure whose masks have great similarities.
