Large Biombo or Luba mask from Kasai (N° 19555)
cimwana, the latter displaying certain recurrent aesthetic characteristics in the Kuba tribe, such as the use of motifs composed of triangular checkerboards with contrasting colors. Luba from Kasai, established among the Biombo, may also have influenced the style of this unusual large mask.
Matt patina with traces of use, white kaolin pigments and red tukula powder, which, when mixed with palm oil, produces a coloring paste.
