Built up since the 1860s, the African Museum's collection today comprises eight thousand pieces, the vast majority of which come from West Africa. The objects gathered in the museum show the history of a part of Africa and tell both the diversity and universality of certain practices and beliefs. The African Museum took the opportunity of its 150th anniversary to put its collection into perspective, study its formation and make discover some of its strong points. Under the scientific direction of Laurick Zerbini and Julien Bondaz, five authors have mobilized to give shape to this project and to propose a book that is much more than a catalog. Their work goes to the heart of the museum's project, which is to work on intercultural dilaogue. Authors: Joseph Adande, Julien Bondaz, Pierre Boutin, Claude Prudhomme, Laurick Zerbini.
